I can’t remember the last time I took part in a book tag but I thought this was a great opportunity to do a mid-year check-in to see how the reading year is going so far! Credits for these questions go to: Rachel Catherine on YouTube.
- Best book you’ve read so far in 2024

I’ve had 7 five star books this year so far which is really good! They are all super close so it’s hard to choose a favorite but if I had to choose one I’d have to say, Lovely War by Julie Berry!
2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2024
School Trip by Jerry Craft which is book three of the New Kid series and another of my five star reads this year! This series is so good.

3. New release you haven’t read yet but want to

I have loved every Stacey Lee book I’ve read so far so I can’t wait to read her newest release!
4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year
I’m so excited for Heiste Royale by Kayvion Lewis, the sequel to Thieves’ Gambit which was another of this year’s five stars for me!

5. Biggest surprise

Probably Shadows of the Dark Realm by Tyler Edwards which was one of the first books I read this year. It was a high fantasy eBook which I was very skeptical about but ended up really enjoying!
6. Favorite new author
Jordan Ifueko, whose book Raybearer is a new favorite of mine. I was incredibly excited to recieve an ARC of her latest release and I can’t wait to read it

7. Book that made you cry
Lovely War definitely made me cry but since I already used that one, Red Rising had me in tears within the first couple chapters! It’s also one that keeps growing on me the more time that goes by.

8. Book that made you happy

Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan, the newest addition to the Percy Jackson series! Not my all time favorite from this author but definitely feel-good!
9. What books do you need to read by the end of the year

You can check out my 24 Books to Read in 2024 post for this question! But one I can’t believe I haven’t read yet is Castles in Their Bones which I will be trying hard to get to before the end of the year.
10. What books do you want to re-read this year
I really want to re-read My Lady Jane ahead of watching the tv series which comes out very soon on Amazon!

11. Books you’ve been putting off

I’ve been slacking in the classics department and don’t think I’ve picked up a single one yet this year! I definitely need to read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and the last two unread Jane Austen books I have, among others, before the end of this year.
12. A book you enjoyed with mixed reviews
I really enjoyed Shatter Me which I know a lot of people have a love/hate relationship with. The rest of the series so far has been a different story, but the first book was super enjoyable!

13. Series you want to finish before the end of the year

I would love to finish the Orphans of the Tide trilogy this year! It has been a work in progress for me 3+ years now so it will be nice to finally call it a wrap.
14. Five star predictions for the rest of the year
I’m predicting The Invincible Summer of Juniper Jones, as well as The Silence of Bones and The Drowned Woods, as a few of my five stars for the rest of the year!

15. Reading goal update

Currently at 37 of 65 books read so definitely going to hit that goal. I intentionally set it on the lower side though because I’m hoping to take some time on classics in the later half of the year, which will take me a bit longer to get through!
Happy Reading ☺

Johanna,
I’m a friend of your Aunt Allie’s and so enjoy your blog! I’ve gotten several recommendations from you, so thanks.
I’m really chiming in to recommend The Invincible Summer of Juniper Jones. I read it a couple of years ago and still remember the story (which is saying a lot for me). When you get around to it, I’ll be interested to hear what you think.
I love hearing about you from your Aunt!!
