Recently I’ve found myself loving books with a crazy plot twist. Looking back on the books I’ve read this year, by far the most memorable ones were those that contained some kind of jaw-dropping moment. Today I thought I’d compile a list of my favorite books that I’d recommend reading if, like me, you love to be taken by surprise!
- Strike the Zither by Joan He
This was the most recent book I read with a twist that took me completely by surprise! It started off intriguing but I was skeptical as to what the author would do with the rest of the book because I couldn’t really see where the story was going. In the end though, every page was worth it!
- The Last Cuentista by Donna Barba Higuiera
This one is for anyone out there who likes their books more on the bittersweet side. And maybe more bitter than sweet as this book was so sad! It was really well crafted though and, coming from someone who’s not usually into sci-fi, I loved it!
- The Infinity Courts by Akemi Dawn Bowman
I read this book earlier this year and since then I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it! I ended up giving it four stars but the plot twist at the end was mind blowing and the story itself explores hard topics that really make you think.
- The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen
I’ve seen mixed reviews for this one with lots of people saying they saw the twist coming from a mile away but that wasn’t the case for me! I was taken completely by surprise and a bonus is that this book is great for all ages. I would also highly recommend it to any reluctant readers!
- Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto
The farther down we get on this list the less I can dredge up in my memory concerning the books 😅 At the time I read it though I can definitely remember loving this one! It’s told in a dual time-line format and the moment when the past and present come together is just incredible!
- Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
This is the best classic I have ever read. With its morally gray characters and gothic undertones I couldn’t get enough! And talk about a plot twist! If you aren’t usually into classics or find it takes you ages (like me) to get through one whenever you try, look no further as this one doesn’t disappoint!
