~My Thoughts~
My first thought upon finishing this book was how much I wanted to go back to the start and read it all over again, it was that good!! This book deftly weaves together the story of the Trojan war through the lens of the women whose voices are left out of the original epics.
My first venture into Greek mythology retellings was Ariadne by Jennifer Saint, which wasn’t very exciting and I felt didn’t add anything new to the original story. However, reading this book, everything felt so original, and as a result, even though I’d heard some of the stories before, the way that they were laid out offered such a fresh perspective I felt like I couldn’t get enough of it!
Aside from the few stories that I knew, I loved discovering so many new ones! They were heartbreaking and filled with so much emotion. The author did an amazing job of making you feel so much for a character in such a short span of time. There were a lot of characters in this book and as a result there wasn’t much time to dwell on each one individually but I never failed to feel something for whoever the current protagonist was!
Overall, this is the perfect introduction to the realm of Greek mythology. I can’t recommend it enough and look forward to reading more from this author! Happy Reading 🙂
