Happy 2025! This January I set my record for the number of books read in one month. This means I’ve been quiet on the blog but rest assured I have been very busy doing lots of reading! I was studying an English Lit unit for school and had to read both Twelfth Night and Jane Eyre this month. Twelfth Night was… confusing, but I loved Jane Eyre! I also got to see Sue Lynn Tan on her first ever UK tour which was so much fun and I hit the jackpot on some great special edition books.

A big theme for me this month was remembrance. We remembered Martin Luther King Jr. Day as well as Holocaust Memorial Day which got me on the thread that celebrating and creating awareness fights erasure. History is integral to understanding who we are today and through reading I have been encouraged by books that challenge my thinking and when sharing them with others, I see it as the start of doing my piece to hold onto the stories and lives that are most vulnerable to being forgotten. This will continue to be increasingly important moving forward, so read those books that grapple with hard subject matter, that might make you uncomfortable but creates in you empathy for people. We can disagree and still value the validity of someone’s experience. We can choose to listen to the voices that “progress” would rather we ignore. And we can celebrate how far we have come if we are willing to acknowledge that we still have a long way to go.

I hope that this blog will continue to be a place that expands reading horizons (including my own!) and brings new perspective. Don’t hesitate to reach out with your book recommendations as I would love to keep the conversation going! Happy Reading ๐Ÿ™‚
