If you’re anything like me, after finishing all the Hunger Games books, you may be wondering what you can read next to fill the hole that they left in your heart. On my quest to find books to fit that criteria, I read a LOT of dystopians and have compiled a list with my favorites below! Some of these are pretty well known and others you may not have heard of before, but my hope is that they will put you on the right track to discovering new Hunger Games-esque books of your own. Just don’t forget to come back and let me know when you’ve found any you love!
- The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness: this book was so emotional and also has a very unique writing style! Gritty, fast paced and will keep you guessing until the end. 5/5
- The Maze Runner by James Dashner: this is the perfect series to read if you are just starting out on your dystopian journey. It’s very easy to read with short chapters and high stakes, just make sure you have the rest of the series on-hand for when you finish the first one! 5/5
- The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken: it’s high time I did a re-read of this one! It features found family and a road trip where everyone’s lives are on the line. One of my all-time favorites! 5/5
- Flashfall by Jenny Moyer: those of you who have been following this blog for awhile may know that this is one of my newest dystopian obsessions! I picked it up on a whim at the bookstore I volunteer at and it’s become a firm favorite for me. It’s like if Katniss worked in the mines and then had to go save the world (but better) 5/5
- Dry by Neal & Jarrod Shusterman: here we have one of my oldest dystopian favorites which I actually discovered before reading the hunger games! It asks the question, what if all the water suddenly ran out? Bonus for it being a standalone! 5/5
- Dustborn by Erin Bowman: finally we have one of my favorites from last year (and another standalone, yay!) which was another that took me completely by surprise! The story is so intense and twisty, it’s the perfect book to curl up and get lost in! 5/5
That’s all for now but make sure to follow my Goodreads which I’m regularly updating so you don’t miss anything and also don’t forget to comment below your favorite books that gave you that Hunger Games feeling! Happy Reading π

I really like Neal Schusterman books, too. I will look for DRY. I also like THE KNIFE OF NEVER LETTING GO series. It was pretty intense, though. Who is the bad guy?

The Knife of Never Letting Go series is definitely intense! I actually couldn’t even finish the last book because of how dark it got, but I still love the first one. The overarching villain of the series was the Mayor I believe but book one has Aaron as the main antagonist π

I definitely agree with these! I loved every one of them, actually! And I’ll go ahead and add Neal Shusterman’s other series too like Unwind and Scythe! Great list!
