~Summary~

His sprawling mansion is the only home January has ever known since her father, who travels year-round, left her in Mr. Locke’s care. ~My Thoughts~

What a peculiar book! I first had this on my to-read pile for last fall and I definitely think it’s perfect for the season but I never got around to it then, hence why I read it now instead! It took me awhile to get into as a lot of the first half of the book is setting up the world and I also had to adjust to how the book is structured because, not only are you following January’s story but, there’s another ‘book inside the book’! Once I got into the story though I really enjoyed it!

January was such an endearing character and I loved watching her grow in confidence and spirit even while Mr. Locke and others kept doing everything in their power to stamp it out. The idea of there being doors to other worlds is very attractive to a book lover and I thought it was really neat how the author explored the effect that the crossover of those different worlds might have. You definitely have to go into this story with an open mind as it does get a bit strange in parts, but overall it is well worth the read! And for anyone concerned, I can confirm that the dog does NOT die 🙂 Happy Reading!
